Horizontal Overflow Questions

You came on the thread, made a comment about something that was not even an issue (because you did not read the thread)

Randall get over it. WE moved WAY PAST THAT? What in the world don't you understand about that? Yes Randall, I did not catch the fact that he was not putting teeth in the overflow but quickly moved past that. Somehow you are still stuck there.

SO FREAKING WHAT?

That certainly DOES NOT make the point about teeth any different.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ADJUSTABLE GATE PORTION OF THE CONVERSATION.

Your distracting from the actual arguement by continuing to bring up the fact that I did not catch the fact that he was not using teeth.

My I remind you that you debated the other subjects, but have resorted back to this nonsense?

and have continued the great escape ever since.... just let it go..
You have to be kidding right? That is all you have done is NOT LET IT GO? Instead of debating the merits of the "gate" and overall overflow design, you like a broken record.

"but beany, you said Teeth"
"we were not talking about Teeth"
"but beany, you said Teeth"
"we were not talking about Teeth"
....

No Randall, we quickly moved past the teeth.

What escape? I went on to comment about the GATE and overall overflow design. What don't you understand about that?

You keep bringing it up as if it has something to do with my point? CONTEXT RANDALL.

BeanAnimal, your idea of having one siphon drain would be good as a line to feed a protein skimmer, as it will deliver more pressure than a simple gravity drain. The resistance of the protein skimmer drain would discourage over siphon and subsequent "toilet flushing" effect.

I use a much slower turnover ratio, so one drain can feed the skimmer, with an emergency overflow tee just above it.

I think some of your suggestions would be better-accepted if they were presented without the sparing match.

Exactly :)

Yes. I do prefer to use (3) drains though.

1) siphon
2) spillway
3) dry emergency

By adding the second drain (the spillway) the siphon can be adjusted to maintain the desired water level in the overflow box and gurgle free. The spillway is setup in such a way that it will turn into a full siphon if needed. The dry emergency drain is the failsafe.

Sadly, no. We have a number of people who don't debate facts and instead just get twisted out of shape when you don't agree with them.

If you follow this thread, you will see that Randall engaged in CONVERSATION until he realized he could not debate the points I made. At that point he went BACK to attacking me, not my points.

The other guy, just jumped in to be a jerk. We have a lot of those around here also.

YOU are thankfully NOT that way. You and I have had some disagreements that have been rather brisk. But they certainly don't end up this way. Why? Becuse we both argue about the points at hand. I rather enjoy your comments in threads, they are always well thought out and articulate, even if I do not always agree.

I wouldn't come on here if everyone agreed with me, and I wouldn't learn anything if I was always right.

I've stayed out of trouble by sticking to discussions rather than arguments or debates. When I'm met with a hostile adversary, I do a search of the antagonists past posts in other threads to see what I'm up against.

When I did a search on you (BeanAnimal) a while back, I found that trouble managed to find you one way or another, but within those same threads you had some great ideas and insight. I realized it was only your passion for the hobby that made you so outspoken.

You're certainly not a one man wrecking crew, as there's no shortage of sparing partners on aquarium forums. :)

Personally, I'm tired of both of your bickering. Not trying to be a jerk, but enough is enough.

I appreciate both of your opinions, but your quarreling should be taken elsewhere, specifically PMs. Then it becomes private, egos aren't as big of an issue, and it becomes quieter quicker.

Please... give it a break.
