So there were a really cheap batch of horseshoe crabs (HSC) at the LFS a couple weeks ago, so i decided to do a little experiment.
I figured the HSC spends most of its time burried under the sand, eating DSB marcofauna. My DSB in the mantis tank is way too filled with little bristle worms, cyano, algae etc.
My mantis never seens to leave the rocky areas of the tank. I never see the mantis playing in the sand.
So i figured i would give a HSC a try in the mantis tank.
So far its been a couple weeks, and the HSC is still alive and going strong. I know he is there b/c i can see the tracks he leaves on the surface (since he is moving around below the sand.)
Any my sand is alot cleaner, alot less algae, cyano, etc.
So I have a 5" Peacock, two 4" turbos which are too big for the mantis to take out, 1 3" damsel (too fast for the mantis) and now a 4" HSC.
Going well so far, lets see how long the HSC lasts.
