Horseshoe Crabs in a FOWLR tank?

I've got a 150gal FOWLR tank and was informed that a LFS got in some small horseshoe crabs.... I'm thinking of picking one up to put in the tank.... I know that they can get rather large but I don't think that will be an issue for quite a while... I'm wanting it for the "that's neat" aspect and also to keep my sandbed clean... I also know that they have to be suplimented with meaty foods....

So what do you think..?? I'm looking to go out this afternoon to look at them so I need an answer soon.....:D

Depends on what fish you have as they may eat them, also large hermits will eat them. You need a sand on bottom of the tank as they like to hide in the sand during the day and come out when the lights are off. I have 4 of them in my tank and only saw them after the lights where off for a while and even then at first sign of light they would dirt into the sand and hide. In the morning I would see all the marks that they left in the sand, that's how I know they where still alive.

Something to keep in mind. You are RARELY going to see them. I have had one in our 125 for months now and have seen him once or twice.

Other than rarely seeing him, he seems pretty easy, and does not mess with anything else in the tank.

Good Luck

you know they get about 2 feet long?

In the Home aquarium they'll get no where near 2' and will actually not grow that much if anything at all.

Well thanks for all of the input ... It turns out that they were all sold out of them.... I ended up with a Rainsford Goby ( for my 12gal NC )... A Diamond Watchman Goby and a Peppermint Shrimp... both for my 37gal reef.... I still want to try the Horseshoe but will have to wait.....
