Have you ever gotten a horseshoe leatherjacket (Meuschenia hippocrepis) in stock or have tried? What would the price be? ;)

FishyMel,

Thank you for your post. We are sorry to say that we have never offered this amazing fish. The Horseshoe Leather Jackets (Meuschenia hippocrepis) are found in the southern most part of Australia in temperate to sub tropical waters. They would require very cold water in the home aquarium. Because of this, these fish are rarely available throughout the trade and if you are able to find one it will be very expensive.

Would this fish be in the same temperature range as a white barred trunkfish? The horse shoe leatherjacket, white barred trunkfish, ornate trunkfish pair, and shaw's trunkfish would make a pretty cool temperate tank!

FishyMel,

Thank you for your post. We are checking with our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility regarding what temperature is recommended for the Horseshoe Leather Jackets and if they will be suitable tank mates for the White Barred Trunkfish. We will post once we receive the information

Fishymel,

Thank you for waiting for our answer. The Horsehoe Leather Jacket, White Barred Trunkfish, Ornate Trunkfish pair, and Shaw's trunkfish may be housed in the lower temperature range of 60-69 degrees.

Ideal temperature range for the Leatherjacket is 60-69 degrees based on the average seasonal ocean temperature in south western Australia to Victoria and Tasmania where this specimen ranges.

Wow, this very attractive species is just one more reason to increase imports of livestock from temperate locales. A better availability of temperate livestock would in itself promote a greater interest in temperate aquaria. In my opinion, this is a potentially lucrative market that now deserves renewed attention on the part of retailers.
