host anemone Q, about a clown project

gday all,

currently in the process of raising some clowns, both black and normal oscellaris, and im going to try and keep a large number in a dedicated tank to see how the pecking order evolves and how it all ends up.

so my question is this, would you go with a magnfica or lots and lots of bubble tips???

i can think of pros and cons for both options here, but thought id post and see what you guys think.

Oscellaris don't naturally host in BTA's. I hear they will in an aquarium.

Magnifica often don't survive capture and transport. I'd recommend against it for a behaviour experiment.

Have your thought about a carpet anemone?

yeah, i believe i can be successfull in getting the fish into the bta, but i dont know about getting all of them in there hey, im thinking the social pecking orer might banish some fish to a different area of the tank.....

the magnificas we get down like a fair bit of stock dont seem to have the shipping related issues, understand they are signifigantly more touchy then a BTA, but you will find some pretty basic tanks in AUS able to maintain a mag.

carpets out as i just dont like the fact the clowns cant nestle in amongst the tenticles.

i think 50 juvi clowns hosting a big magnifica would be a sight to see, but not sure i wanna spend the cash on one, and then ive dived with some melapenous clowns with big familys hosting like 30 anemones over a small bommie and that was so freaking cool... just dont know if the non natural host oscellaris will behave like that....

In Aus, go with mags 2 at least and 50 clowns is far too many for one anemone.

Ocellaris will behave as if they are in a mag in BTA once they have moved in.



If you are worried about banished clowns try putting a couple BTA low in the tank so the banished have somewhere to go.

dont know if it'l be 50 hey! will have to see how many i get through, and how many i keep.
