Any tricks to getting my clowns to host? It's been a year and nothing! I have two pairs that get along great. They hang out close to my nem, but never seem interested in it. I feed right next to him to get them in that area...

I know very little about this as i'm more interested corals so correct me if i'm wrong.. But i was having this same problem with my ora clowns.. The guy at my LFS said to start scaring them a little by putting your hand in the water and flicking all your fingers out. i started doing this once or twice a day for a week or so and now 2 days ago one of my clowns started hosting its anemones. Don't know if it was the scaring or he just finally decided he needs a home??

IMO, that is a bad idea. Depending on the type of anemone you could very well end up with a very expensive meal for your anemone, should just let them be hosted when they (( the clowns )) are ready too be.

All of them eat right out or my hands... I wouldn't want to scare them.

A mature pair of false percs, and a younger pair of Black Clowns. The new is a baili rose bubble tip.. if that's how you spell it. :)

There are more then one clown that could be called "black clowns", are you talking about black and white ocellaris?

Also, when/if one of those pairs starts to spawn, they won't take too kindly to having another pair of clowns in that tank.

ha yeah see. i said correct me. i don't know. it worked for me even tho they didn't really seem to be very scared.. because theyd come right back to my hand looking for food and never retreated to the anemone for shelter.. but for some reason one started hosting. maybe it was a fluke?

the scare tactic works.. i just used my mag cleaner to scare the clown.. you dont want to swoosh them into the anemone as they will be eaten.. i have a pair of percs in my tank with a nem for 8 months.. i tried every trick in the book... flashlights, pictures, youtube videos, nothing worked..

my clowns were the only fish in my 120g so they were just way to comfortable... once i stared to harass them they began to look for a place to hide. finally they began to hide in the nem..

dont harass your fish to much or the will die.. the goal is to make them uncomforatable so they feel the need to look for shelter.. anemones obviosly are there natural shelter

What size tank?
7ft 210

Black and white Ocellaris. I figured I'd get them another nem on the other end of the tank if that happens...
