What are some good ways of getting an occelaris clown fish to host in a long tentacle anemone. I am starting a new tank and this is something I would like to happen so I can observe the closest thing to natural clown fish behavior as if it were in the wild (plus I wouldn't have to feed the anemone):) Thanks.

First, feed the anemone. To get clowns to use it, add them to the tank. There's no magic and there are no guarantees.

Mine decided overnight to associate with my Sebae Aenome after being in the tank together for about a month. Have patience! It might never happen or it could happen instantly.

If you want an ocellaris to accept an anemone, an LTA (Macrodactyla doreensis) is a poor choice. First of all LTAs are not a beginners anemone. Their needs are not easily met. Secondly, of all the clownfish host anemones LTAs are one of the least likely anemones to be accepted by ocellaris clowns.

Your best bet for an anemone for your ocellaris would be Heteractis crispa (Sebae anemone). If you find one that is tan (not white), with long tentacles, they are a much better choice for a beginner. In addition, although not a natural ocellaris host, I have never had an ocellaris refuse one.

my clowns took over a year to notice the 3 anemones in the tank.. then one day bam they moved in and wont leave... dont force it.. that causes stress and thats bad for everything... it'll happen.. my true perc and occelaris are hosted to RBTA's.. happy as can be... granted its not a natural host.. but they love em
