Hot in Hawaii

Well my wife and I are sitting on O'ahu visiting her mother who is on a travel nursing assignment. It's spring break for me (gotta love being a teacher) so we just had to take the advantage of a free place to stay and free travel on the island.

Yesterday just did a little bit of travel around the island checking out the main sites like Pipe, some of the named beaches, had some sushi (I'm a veggie so that was an interesting experience) and then got in the water for about an hour to do some fine snorkeling. Unfortunately it was pretty cloudy and windy so visibility and colors weren't the brightest but I did see a few things.

Saw a gorgeous pair of lage yellow tangs zipping around. Saw a wide variety of wrasses swimming around, tangs, butterflies, puffers, triggers, you name it. Hopefully I'll get into some brighter water that offers a nice view of what Hawaii has to offer. Also saw some zoanthids but they were very drab in color.

Also while on Pipe we saw Joel Tudor doing a photoshoot. Off to breakfast!

Went out for a little while and saw a HUGE porcupine puffer... he was about 2-2.5 ft long! Largest I've ever seen. Went whale watching and saw quite a few humpbacks playing around and got a nice bit sun on my arms and face. Boy oh boy I might not be snorkeling today. Walking along the harbor I noticed a lot of yellow tangs picking algae off the harbor walls as well as a powder brown, spotted puffer, long spiny urchines. One of the YT was about 12 inches long and was just beautfiul. Anyway I want to go back to bed after a bath in some aloe!
