I currently have a Aqua C remora skimmer on my 75 and i think its a decent skimmer, but im looking for something a bit more effective. Anyone have some recommendations?

If your looking for the best HOB available, look into the Deltec MCE600. Alittle pricey but well worth it. I just set my skimmer up a few days ago and I already have gotten more nasty dark skimmate(something you dont get with Remoras) then I got with my aquaC Remora in 2-3 weeks.

Deltec MCE600...but you can DIY it for a fraction of the cost very easily...

i have had the CSS 65, still have the 125 and 220 and they are excellent skimmers for the $$$

The design of the MCE series is very simple...I have made a couple that are 1/2 size using a MJ400 as the mixing pump (modified the pump shroud for wide output and made the impeller into a needlewheel). I am working on a larger one that would involve 1/4" Acrylic and a modded MJ1200 as its heart. The basic layout of the MCE series makes it dead easy to copy...its just the matter of finding a suitable or modding a good mixing pump.

What are the odds that you can send me some pics as reference? I would be willing to try this as it appears to be very simple. My only concern would be what to use for materials and the dimensions of the skimmer itself. The drawing seems simple enough to copy but lacks sizing. I am curious as to the performance of your DIY skimmer. Is it as good as what you can buy out there?
