Houdini the Crab has passed

So, this story doesn't necessarily have a happy ending (especially if you're a big fan of crabs), but I recently caught a nice 1/2" or so crab from my DT. I think it was a gorilla crab, but I'm not certain. I banished him to the sump/fuge where I thought he could live out his days in relative happiness among the pods/live rock/chaeto. Well about a week after throwing him in there, I was walking by my back door and saw what I thought was a huge spider. Lo and behold, it was my banished crab making a run for it. He was somewhat dry, so no telling how long he'd been running looking for the door. He was about 10ft from the tank when I found him.

I still have no idea how he climbed up my acrylic sump walls. Anyone else had a crab make a run for it?

 It probably climbed the silicone seam. I've had hermits do that before, but they never actually got out of the tank.

I put a rather large sally lightfoot crab in my sump and after a couple of days it disappeared too. I know they can live out of the water for a while, so I bet it somehow climbed out and escaped. I bet the dogs got it first.

I'm always worried about a fish jumping out of the water and my dog getting to it first. I wish I could teach my dog to get me or someone in the house to alert me (lassie style) when something jumps out of my tank.

My first tank I had a clownfish jump out of the back of the tank through a 1/2" opening and I found him all the way down the stairs. I walked over him the first time, then while I was looking for him I noticed he was down the steps. Had to have been a bumpy ride...
