House Plans

Well we closed yesterday on the small acerage just north of Mustang. Getting the blue prints drawn up now. Here are the floor plans and exterior. We included the tank room 18' x 8' with in wall main display to living room. It will be so nice to have everything out of the house. Haven't decided whether or not the keep the 300g or move up to a 400g. The flooring at tank location will be 4'x6'.

WOW, That looks fantastic!!! I can't imagine having a fish room with outlets and a place to put things. Will be great not trying to hide everything under an aquarium!!! And one vote for for the move up to the 400 or heck why not go 500!!! Congrats!!!

Nice job Doug! I may have to copy you in a couple of years! we plan on building in the near future. I also vote go bigger on the tank! lol

Thanks everyone voting for the larger tank. In theory the larger tank sounds good, but would have to have the 300g tank and stand sold way ahead to be able to afford ordering larger one. So more than likely will be keeping the 300g for main display and selling the stand and canopy.

As someone in construction, make sure your electrician and plumber know your intentions. The electrician will need to know how much power you will be needing for the load and the plumber will need to know the type of water supply you may be needing and possible drainage. For my fish room I installed a floor drain just in case of an emergency and for water changes.

Congrats!! I vote for 1000g tank
I appreciate the votes. I may have to start taking donations.

I agree totally. I built the house we are now in but didn't build with a separate tank room in mind. Again I am the GC on the new house build and have planned out the tank room build. As you can see there will be a commercial sink and the RODI unit will be mounted for water supply at sink location. Floor will be level with floor drain in middle. Electrical will have two separate curcuits.

I might be able to help you out with selling the 300g in order to go with a bigger display. I am in the process of building a new house as well and am wanting a 300g to put in my office wall. PM me if you think you might want to sell your current tank.

Also, I'll be interested to see how you set up your fish room. I'm sure you've put a lot of thought into it and I'm glad you're doing all this a few months ahead of me so I can watch and learn.

So you are looking for just a tank? The stand and canopy would have to go too.
And yes, as we move closer to the build I will post on the tank room build.

Yeah, probably just the tank. Since it's gonna be an in wall setup I don't know that I would be able to make the stand and canopy work.

And the build begins. Started house a few weaks ago. Footing and stem are in and pictures show the frag room footing and stem for tank in wall. Main display will be a 4 inch drop in floor.

Might I suggest a closed in ground loop for cooling the tank. All you would need is a controller and a pump. The water in the loop would naturally cool and the pump would only need to kick on to move some cool water into the sump to cool the system down. I think that it would be a huge energy savings compared to a chiller if you end up with a lot of lighting above your tank.

Looks pretty good though, will be real nice once everything is finished.

Depending on the property size drilling may not be required. Only need to me down to a depth where the ground temp swill stay constant during the summer. A trench cam be made and the lines looped through it.

I saw one installation where the line was in a looped chain configuration and was laid in a trench 4 ft deep 6 feet wide and 100 feet long. It would turn and then work its way back along another trench. That was for geothermal HVAC but I would guess something around the size of a driveway would work for a tank and around a depth of 4 to 5 feet with 12 inch spacing between passes.

In the case of a tank just have to make sure there is a constant ability to cool the water enough to defeat the heat being introduced into the system. And if the water was able to cool to 60 degrees in that space I am guessing that it would only come on for 5 to 10 minutes every hour to counteract the heat from the lighting. But could always stub the lines out from your tank room to the outside so that if you can't see it feasible now that you can add it later.

We have almost 1.5 acres but going to have alot of landscaping. Horizontal would probably not be applicable. I have talked to our well guy that is drilling our water well. He suggest if doing a loop that drilling a vertical closed loop about 40' would be best.

I don't think you'll be having any problems with weight over your tank room. That's going to be a good bit of overkill, and I like it!

I'm sure the house build is exciting.

Yes Cody, don't think I will be having any weight problems and that is just what I wanted.. Exciting yes... We lost our little 13 year old dog last week and just been so busy since guess that is a good thing.
Well got to love the Oklahoma weather, we and the contractors checked with 3 local stations and there was supposed to be a very low chance of rain until eveing. Well guess what it started spitting rain about 10 am on through the day. So we got rain on the concrete. They had a long day working and finishing. I think it will be okay.
