House tiles as frag tiles?

There was a store that used to use tiles like what you buy from Home Depot but the ones that had like a bunch of small tiles held together by a mesh. And they would use them as frag tiles. Is that reef safe? I'm just curious because I was thinking of doing it myself.

I would say most tiles are safe. I'd prob stay away from clay tiles like Mexican and ones like that. I use travertine tiles cause it has that coral rock look, well for things I don't plan on fragging, just cause its hard to cut.

Go to the beach and take a walk. You will find all the frag plugs you want/need. Lots of small dead pieces of coral chunks all along the tide line. They are free and look natrual compared to tile or store bought frag plugs. I found 25+ while plying with the kids on the beach at MACNA last weekend.

I have used the travertine tiles in the past and they work great. If I remember right you need to boil them so the glue loosens. Once you get it all off just rinse them out and you should be good to go.
