no loss of power, but quite a show in ventura last night. kept me up for about an hour!

That was the most intense lightning I've ever seen, like flash bulbs going off every 5 or 10 seconds. 3+ hours power outage here; have a relay hooked up to house power with the other leg going to an inverter supplied by a deep cycle marine battery. Powers my recirc pump for about a day and a half - a UPS was prohibitively expensive for that kind of capacity (I need it for peace of mind since I might be out of town during an extended outage, travel somewhat frequently). The homemade system cost all of about $80, works well. But what a great light show! - even got my 5 y.o. daughter out of her room, scared of all the lighting/thunder (first time that ever happened). Reminded me of growing up in the midwest. But this storm topped anything, in terms of lightning, that I've seen even there.

Yeah I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and saw a flash of light. I didnt know what was going on. I thought someone took a picture of me from my living room! :lol:

I am in Florida and have been searching for an easy way to do this can you please post instructions or a link to the instructions and part list you used to build you system.
We are in the heart of hurricane season here....and with a cat 3 bearing down on us when I get out of dodge I want to make sure my investment makes it out ok....

It sounds like he has a standard 12-14 volt car battery with a 12 volt to 110 voly power inverter connected to it. Im not sure what stores you have in Florida but the inverter can be bought @ Frys electronics, radio shack, costco, biglots, target, kmart, etc... PM me if you have any questions...
