I have a 46 gallon I could switch over to a fuge and stick a mantis in it when I upgrade tank size. Just wondering how expensive does it get over the years to feed these guys? I kind of like the look of those bright yellow ones or peacock ones, just inverts gross me out and I don't even like handling the snails and crabs lol. I think I just like the way these guys swim and they look pretty neat walking around.

if you go with a peacock that will be good, to feed them live snails and such look to be about $30 a week, the best thing to do is get some fresh shrimp from the supermarket for about $8.00 a pound which is about 20-30 shrimp which is good for about 40-60 feedings

If you have a refugium or small place to "store" them, www.reeftopia.com has good lot prices on snails. I'm not sure how Lou would react if I dropped in a couple hundred...might be fun to watch though.

Ya, I just can't afford stuff like that. If it was like pellets every day maybe but not that stuff. Thanks for the replies though!

well i just told you about the shrimp! if you cant afford at least those shrimp then maybe you should not get a mantis, especially a peacock

Dude.. so far it's really cheap. They eat a lot but if you wanna feed them feeders fish, they will eat them. They're like 5 for a dollar and if you want, you can feed the mantis one every other day or so. It's really not gonna be that expensive at all... atleast for me...

I grab hermits off the beach haha

well its prolly going to be hard for him to get hermits off the beach in wisconsin lol but really just buy one of those 100 shell packages for hermits off of ebay, buy 1 pound of fresh shrimp at the supermarket, and a bottle of selcon, put a few drops of selcon on the shirmp and jam it in the shell the best you can and drop it in the tank, he gets to use his smashers, get vitamin enriched food, and you only payed about $30 max to get him enough food for at least a few months
