How and what to feed Montipora?

that Fish Guy

Frag Swap Crusader!
I was wondering if there was a way to feed Montipora (Superman, Poker Star, Sunset, Rainbow, etc.)?

I mean they do not have mouths like my Duncans, Hammers, Frogspawn, or Acans that you can inject food into.

So is there a way to feed them to get better growth?

And if so how and what do you recommend feeding them?

Light ;).

And some other sps foods, however it's not needed at all. Personaly i use som d-d LPS food and some SPS food once a week. I put it in the flow of each coral. And the stuff i got left i dump into the flow.

But be carefull of nitrates when doing this too much.

Which brands do you recommend of Coral food?

My Corals generally do not grow.

I have High Light and High Flow too.

I have Coral that have been in my Aquarium for 3 years now with absolutely no growth (Green Millepora is one of them).

My LFS says it is because I do not feed them.

My Acans do not grow either but I gave them Pellets one day and Mysis the next and now they look very happy and puffed up.

The only things that grow are Green Star Polyp, Xenia, Pink Briarium, etc.

The stuff that I do not want to grow. LOL.

So now I am obsessed with feeding my Corals so I can get growth and Frag them to make new Corals.

It could be that your tank may be to clean. I would bump up the feeding a small amount on your tank. If your fish poop more then there is more broken down nutrients for them to use. You could try dosing amino's however feeding fish may be the way to go.

Your Montis are eating small particles of food that your Duncans, Euphyllia etc. are missing.
I've never seen a coral eat fish excrement. (Try it for yourself).
From your given description (ie:The only things that grow are Green Star Polyp, Xenia, Pink Briarium, etc. The stuff that I do not want to grow) your aquarium is relatively high in nutrients (for great Montipora growth) and I would suggest heading in the opposite direction of what your LFS and most everyone else here is suggesting... in other words, clean it up.

X2

Xenia wouldn't be growing in an aquarium that is too nutrient poor for SPS growth IMO.

Should you just add those products into the aquarium or do you want to target feed them and coat them with a syringe?

I tend to do both. Say one tbl. spoon of oyster feast broadcast to make call for dinner.. Get's all the polyps with good PE,..and then add reef chili, oyster feast, and my chopped custom fish food into turkey baster, spot feed.

Sincerely,

David
