How are you venting your chiller?

Hello. I am looking for ideas on how to vent a chiller. I think I'll have to make a custom box that funnels into a clothes-dryer-type air duct. Anyone else done something different? Any pics would be great. Thank you.

That sounds like a good idea. I would also add an in-line blower fan to the duct. The fan in the chiller might not have enough power to force air thru the small duct. By using a relay, you could have the in-line fan turn on and off with the chiller compressor.

Thanks Fuzzy. That in-line blower fan is a good idea, but I don't want to build a box for it. I'll see if I can shorten the duct, and if the flow gets too slow at the output, then I'll put a an auxilary blower.

Anyone else venting their chillers?

I've got mine out in the garage as well. If you've got a place that you can do it, it's a great solution. Just make sure that you insulate the feed and return.

Tagging along. I want to vent my 1/4 eco plus out of my living room. The only remote option I have would be to put it in the basement and I don't want to have to use an ENORMOUS feed pump. Plus I don't think the significant other will allow me to drill through the hardwoods. I could vent to a closet behind the tank, but I'd rather vent outside like a dryer.

You could always remote mount the condensor coil and fan to a place where the heat would not be objectionable. That way no extra heat would be introduced into the room that houses the tank.

Remember whatever you vent out will be replaced by either hot or cold outside air through cracks, vents, windows or other points. If you live in a fairly modern home that is well sealed it may not work well. Then again if you live in an older home you will be drawing in hot outsdie air to replace the damp hot chiller air so it may not be such a good idea. I have been looking at the same and my best option here in Phoenix is to move my chiller out into my sun room even though its hotter than heck out there. My biggest concern is that picking up heat in the coils when the chiller is not running may offset any advantage I gain by moving it out of the main house?

Did you penetrate the fire wall to do this?

I have an older home and my chiller is plumbed through the garage wall. What's a fire wall?

Fuzzy, I believe Gresham and beerguy are friends. I am assuming the firewall statement is a joke because beerguy is a computer guy.

Gresham is a cool guy who knows fish, but I'll let you decide if he is funny.:) :) :)

mine is under the houes you could put it under yours and just make a bracket to hang it just under the floor. that way you wouldn't have to run a bigger pump

Ok, I get it. I thought I might have done something wrong by poking holes through my garage wall. :eek2:
