UUuuu, So is it supose to help? :lol: A dab over my head there but does the ick take it up and kill themselves intracellularly? Or does it just help the fish in some way ward it off?

it is a treatment for any protozal infection, used for dogs, cats, and people. The medicine is inert to these animals (including our fish) because we lack the ability to convert it into its "active ingredient" stage. Protoza and anaerobic bacteria are able to consume it and convert in to the active stage which inturn kills the protoza. I hope Fishdoc will chime in here too. I tried to order it on petmeds.com but no dice. My vet does not see any fish either, I don't know one who does.

Yea, Chris is the one who first gave me the info on it but I never really knew how it worked. My vet down here gave it to me under my dogs name once. I took her a artical in showing its been used in fish. And my freind vet in East Tn gave me a big supply last time I was in and the name was labeled as "for tropical fish" and didn't have an animal as the paitent. If you have a regular vet you use its worth trying because I bet you get a lot higher dose from the pill and is a ton cheaper that way.

another tip, increasing the temp in your tank to 82 will speed up the life cycle of the protoza. This will get them to hatch faster, and hopefully die faster without a fish host. I used a qt with hyposalinity (very safe and calming for the fish because their internal sg is actually much lower than tank conditions so they drink a lot of water to equalize) at 85 degrees with freshvater dips every 48 hours (protoza cannot equalize their sg and die in fresh water hense the hypo) and used half doses of quick cure (very harsh, will kill inverts). This helped beat back the infection and improve their health in the short term! It may help give your clowns a chance!

If you can catch them Hollie give them a FW dip (PH and Temp adjusted) to knock off the worst ones and give there gills a break. A FW dip will actually burst the cyst on the fish if its to a certain stage of development and give the fish some relife. If they are not eating that is not so good .
The kick ick is only going to kill the free swimming stage and not really help the fish immediatly. I would not raise the temp, I have lurked in the disease forum lots of hours and have always read it doesn't work the same as raising the temp in FW does. Also it will make your dissolved oxgen go down. If you do not have a skimmer try to add an air stone for added oxygen and you can drop your salinity in the display a few points safley without harming the few coral or rock you have. And like mentioned above fish actually like a hypo enviroment. I wouldn't go below 1.020 in the display though.
In A hypotonic solution the fish do not have to expend the energy purging the salt from there systems and can heal faster. Hypo is great for open wounds and ick leaves small open wounds when it falls off the host which is a good place for a secondary infection to happen.

I left you a message today. Call me back in the morning if you get a chance. I have a spare 29 you can use for hypo if you choose to go that route. Hope they make it! You have been so paitent and get a bum deal right off !!
