How bad would this be?

OK,
well my plans are for me to turn my 30g. Oceanic Cube into a Seahorse tank.. but I want to do it so that i have Seagrasses and MAcroalgea... kind of like a Biotope aquarium.. and since i need a DSB for the Seagrasses (4.5") i was wondering how bad this would be for the Seahorses to only have 15" of vertical swimming space.. would this cause health issues?? I am not interested in breading because im to busy to give the babies the care they would need.. thank you VERY much

I'd put the seagrasses in pots and leave the overall sand bed shallow.

I do not think that 15" of vertical swim room would cause much harm, but if you fill your tank up a 1/3 with sand, then you are loosing alot of room for the horses to play in.

or i could do slopes where the Sandbed goes from Deep (enough to grow Seagrassesin) and then have other parts that are sunken in..... kinda like hills..or i couldtry pots.. but then they cant grow and spread..

you might have to worry about temperature if you don't have a chiller. are you putting MHs over the tank, seagrasses need plenty of light. Sarah, I'm surprised you haven't jumped in, you are our seagrass expert...

If you aren't worried about babies, then 15" will be plenty of swimming room. A 30 gallon tank will only hold about 2-3 seahorses anyway. Make them all female, keep it cool enough, and I think it sounds like a wonderful idea.

Im planning a chiller... b.c. this tank is going to have 130w PC and 150w MH (srry.. already have the lighting.. theres no going back.. i hope its not to much. i know its kinda overkill but w.e) ......
i have asked on the Seagrass forum here many times and Samala has helped out a TON of times... so had Graveyardworms.... thank you both.. and eveyrone who answered my questions...

I don't see any problems if you can control temperature and provide some shaded areas for the seahorses to hang out if they choose. Good luck, sounds like a cool biotope and ideal for seahorses.

Lisa.. ;) You are such a sweetheart. Yep, as Fish said, we've been chattering back and forth over on the plant forum. Tank height is not somethiing I'm even closed to being well versed in (having only had juvie erectus and the zosterae) so I wanted to see what the SH crowd would say. I gotten learn too.

Fish: still not sure about all that light. I would do one or the other setup. See where that leads you.
