I realize clams in the wiild can grow very big, but how big can they get and what's their life span in aquariums?

More so what do people do when theirs gets too big?

Thanks

If I recall, I think they get up to 14". They can live a long time so I'm not sure.

When they get big, you can:

1. Give them to someone with a bigger tank.
2. Buy a bigger tank.
3. Donate them to an aquarium sometimes.
4. Eat them.

Bro. u serious about eating them?
i've heard they are great for sashimi and what not. never read about eatting them though. lol or feed them to angels.

how about breeding them?

They get at least bigger than this, which is roughly 12" long now and 8" wide since this pic was taken last year.

I took this pic at the Georgia Aquarium during MACNA it's at least 16" to 18". Biggest one I have ever seen.

Andrew zimmern... the bizzare foods guy on the travel channel went to sumoa and they eat giant clams as a delicacy... they protect a small section of beach and allow the clams to grow without alot of worry from human or animal predation... so these things were huge... the one he pulled out to eat was about 14" in shell length, though he said it was one of the smaller ones in the field of clams...

It was eaten raw too... no need for cooking it
