How big of a return pump do I need??

Alright, a little background of what I have going on first. I have a 47g column tank and a 29g reef tank in the same corner of a room. I currently have the 29 g hooked into a sump I made out of another 29g tank. I am using a hang-on-the-back overflow with a 1 inch vinyl drain and an old rio pump as the return. I want to use another overflow box I would like to how onto the 47g and plum it into the same sump. My problem is I would like to use one return pump with a t-split to return to both tanks and not two because of heat concerns. One tank will have a 4'10" head height and the other will have a 4'8" head height. I was looking at Mag 9.5 or 12. Anyone have an suggestions or ideas?? Anything would be helpful!

I would say a Little Giant 2MDX Q would do the trick! got one for sale for ya!

How much horizontal legnth? I gottan extra siphon over flow for ya too elliot. Both Mag drives are pressure rated pumps, and will return a large portion of that flow even with close to 15ft of head total. Probably a Mag 12 will yeild something like 350-400gph to each tank after head.

Thanks buddy! I ended up getting a Mag 12, so now I just need to figure out the plumbing and such. Kinda want to make another t off one of the return lines to run my phosban reactor. Doable?

Yeah that's what I'm doing. Totally doable, you only need 50-80gph through those rxr's. Any faster than that and you can actually dislodge PO4 from the pores of the media. (that might just be hear say)
