How can i lower nitrites?

i took out all of the fish from 75 gal main tank because i had an ich outbreak in one of the flame angel. so, i took all my fish and put them in 55 gal. qt tank. in the qt tank i have only 1 hagen power filter w/ sponge no carbon. since moving the fish i lost two fish the flame and foxface. fish that are still in there are sailfin tang, anthias, two percula clown and 1 scissortail goby, survive. now its been two weeks my nitrite reading is about 5ppm. Im surprise that my fish doesnt show any stress sign. anyway, the flame angel we lost we got another one for free and he's in the main tank but got infested with ich again. I want to cure my main tank fishless for 6 weeks. is this the best way to do it? in that case, i want to remove the flame and put it in the qt tank, so i can hypo all my fish. but, i think it would just stress him with high nitrites, do you think? I really want to get the hypo and the main tank fishless going but im afraid my flame will die if i move him to the qt because of nitrites. how can i lower the nitrites. pls. help.

Is there a reason you think nitrite is the concern and not ammonia?

Nitrite is not very toxic to marine fish:

But ammonia is very toxic. Something like Seachem Prime or Amquel might be in order if ammonia is elevated.
