For the first time in years I think I have Hair Algae. Its only in this one particular spot?? the top of this coral gets blasted with a powerhead and this is where the HA has grown. It appears there are still live polyps under the HA.

Whats the best way to remove the HA?

Thanks!

Cut the branches off and take it out of the direct flow of the powerhead. I notice in my fuge, anything that is in front of the powerhead grows Hair Alge for whatever reason.
Nice lookin bird.

The tips are dead i would think or no alge could grow on them? If its getting slammed by a powerhead, it most likely blew the flesh off of new growth tips and the HA took hold on bare skeleton.

Use a turkey baster to blow it off.

Don't do that, this will cause it to spread in your DT

x2 I have a very small patch of the same stuff growing on a coral skeleton in my tank; it was a skeleton when I got it. My hermits will pick at it from time to time, but not so much recently. Mines dead so Im just going to pull it out and scrub it. Along the same lines, I would agree with mixed_reffer and cut the branches off to remove the HA and prevent it from spreading.

Tissue is receded from the powerhead blasting it. Move the powerhead to redirect the flow. As for removing the algae, I would agree to cut off the algae covered areas to reduce spread of the algae. Pretty birdsnest. It will fill back in in no time.

yep, it is too much direct flow. the powerhead is simply blowing the tissue right off the skeleton. dont worry about the algae spreading; algae will not grow on healthy tissue.
