How Come Not More Than 1 Type Clown In a Tank?

you go to your LFS and they have a tank thats just full of ocellaris or tomato's or clarkii's. i'm talking like 10+ in a 50gallon tank plus. and it takes awhile to sell them off so, i don't understand how they can jam them all in a tank together and not have it turn ugly..its just a question maybe nobody will answer and i know the answer yes it'll turn ugly and they'll kill eachother but it doesn't make it right just because the lfs does but how do they get away with doing it?

all those clowns at the LFS are siblings from a breeder
juvies can be housed together

like aquareeferman said try it with adults and it would get superugly

In a large enough tank species can be mixed together, provided there are enough hosts and the species host different anemones. It is frequently done in public aquariums...(I'm not talking huge tanks...modest sized ones) as well as in home aquariums.

I know what you mean! Here is the answer. In a tank that size with that many clowns the aggression is spred between all of the clowns. All the females hate each other and a lot of the males do too. The key here is 10+. Im sure a few don't make it but with so many clowns, things tend not to get too bad.

Now the problem is when you want a tank with two pairs. Now they only have each other to fight and there will be a winner and a loser. Im not saying its not possible to have two pairs in a tank but It took me 7 pairs untill mine didn't care about each other too much (they still both wanted to RBTA)

well put

groups are something i think people who have done it need to talk about more i really am interested in it.

Thanks, reading it now I always kick myself for not re-reading it a few minutes later to fix my spelling and mistakes.

Not to mention, most LFS tanks have newly arrived fish and very little in the way of decorative material which the fish use to stake out territory.

fwiw: Colonies are possible, just not advised long term. The littlest gets abused mercilessly, although it varies considerably with species. Think about how many times you have seen a tank full of maroons.

One of my longer lasting groups:

Nice pic traveller, your tank? :D
Thanks, and yes, a few years back. 7 juvie black A. polymnus, broken out into pairs and one trio over the years. Once the dominant female and male got into breeding form, a 70ish gal was just not enough space.

i forgot about this post but thansk guys for all the responses...i knew the answer just wanted to see what peoples take on it was..
