How deep a sandbed for aesthetic purposes?

Hi,

I want a sandbed for aesthetic purposes only. Would 1/2" sugar-sized (oolitic) sandbed be good enough. Will I be able to keep the sandbed clean?

if its just for looks, a half inch or less would be best imo... however i suggest against oolite, and i would personally use aragonite... much better if you ever plan on having good flow, or even vacuuming it from time to time... again, jus imo
