How do clown fish taste?

Every time I'm working in the tank my clown fish attacks me. It doesn't hurt, but the sudden impact causes me to jump. This weekend it caused me to break a couple branches off of my Trumpet coral.
I'm safe with bulky shoulder length gloves, but for delicate work they limit finger dexterity to much. I had to keep chancing the clown away for me to epoxy the broken coral, even going as far as hitting the fish with the tongs. Obviously I'm not serious about eating my clown, but things have crossed my mind. :lol2:

lol mine nip and my fingers, but only for food. you could set the net in the tank, thats usually enough to keep the fish hiding long enough to work

do you feed your fish by hand? I had a 15 gal a number of years ago and I would hand feed the fish. Thought it was cool at the time; however, when I would do tank maintenance the fish associated my hand with food and would bite me. When i set up my big tank, I feed with a large syringe and the fish all hide when I'm doing maintenance now.

I got rid of my tomato for that reason. It hurt a little but scared the bejeesus out of me a lot. And it happened every time I went in the tank. Plus it was being aggressive to other members of the tank.

My family always wanted to fry up whatever fish/shrimp I happened to have at the moment, even when it was tiny FW tetras. Don't have any fish right now, so I get some peace and quiet!

Have him stuffed and mounted over the tank as a warning. LOL
haha! My grandfather's loves the antlers and deer/moose/etc heads, which I'm not a big fan of...this, I could see :celeb2:

My clown does the same damn thing. I have come to expect that from the little @#$% and I don't jump as much as I used to. I do not hand feed.

My female Snowflake used to do that all the time. And she would always sneak up from where I couldn't see her and had a knack for biting me at the exact moment I was starting to grab something.

Unfortunately, she died over the weekend for no apparent reason. Even though I wanted to banish her to the sump everytime she bit me, I miss it now when I have to reach in the tank for something. :sad2:

Oils in the hands are really bad for the tank... I mean we all do it and sometimes we cant really get over the habit.

One thing to keep in mind though...

Do you wash your hands before AND after??

Imagine this little tib-bit:

As we all know it is best to wash our hands on a regular basis... Imagine someone came over and sneezed and left some of their 'stuff' just lying around. (sorry trying not to gross some people out) You come along, all ready to do some work, and accidently touch it... Yeah it has prob died and is not contagious any more... but is it? In a tank that is hovering 80... nice and moist... saving grace is that it is salt.

But let's say that same person now had some grease on their hand and you brushed it with your wrist... now that is transferred into the tank and left to create a sheen across the top.

There are lots of these type senerios that really hurt our 'little glemse of the sea'

Yeah you think there is so much extra water compared to a little drip drop that may transfer... OK...

For those smokers reading.. how often have you touched your tank... gone and lit a cigg and not washed your hands first? Got polyps? I hope something does not get on your cigg while you are smoking.. you will regret it.

Just some food for thought... We all do it though... (OK not everyone...) But most do...

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Maybe I can chase him around the tank with a bathtub shark toy! Teach him who's boss!

I have a cat... so I can just put him on the edge and let him look at the fish.... HAHAHAHA

HAHAHA.. Look what I found after I posted that message. And it is new too... I wonder if he was reading this thread and decided to post this video up.

Yeah my clowns are jerks too so when they come close to my hand I try to flick them. Never bite the hand that feeds you!

My clown fish use to go to town when I stick my hands into the tank. Funny thing is he would attack every single sensitive spots like the web in between your fingers but I discovered if u hand feed your clown they will stop! I started to hand feed my male clown using my hands every once in a while and he stopped attacking the hands that feeds him. I found that pretty cool. He now swims through my hands looking for food and knows I'm friend not foe!
