i want to get a pair of clowns and my flow is high in the tank. it's a 20 long and have 1400 g.p.h. my wrasse deals with it fine. need your input

They are clumbsy swimmers, but once they find something to host, they should be fine...is your flow concentrated or well distributed? That'll be important...

i feel like i've got fairly high flow in my tank. My clowns usually hang out on the right side of my tank sorta behind a rock where there isn't much flow. Every once in a while I'll see them swim like hell to make it to the other side but not often. They also won't go anywhere near my anemone as its in an area of pretty high flow.

My clown pair does just fine. I'm running a Mag 18 wide open and 4 Seio 1100's.
They (esp the male) stick close to their anemone and don't seem bothered at all by the current. The female will get up in the current at feeding time and doesn't seem fazed.

Mine tend to stick to the medium flow areas of my tank but they are fully capable of swimming in high flow areas, just be sure to give them some places to relax out of it and they should be fine..... that or they will be pressed against the far side of the tank looking at you like your the meanest human ever:)

I think as long as you have very healthy well acclimated specimens they will be fine especially if they are (or get into) adulthood where they are larger and stronger.

Mine will go near my tunze and ride it sometimes but they stay out of the direct flow often- and yeah sometimes you see the "swim like heck" move to get across to the other side of the tank.

If they are really young babies or not healthy, though, i'd keep them somewhere else until they can handle it

my male clown loves the flow, It's like a goal to get to the powerhead....Then once he reaches it, he lets it take him away and tries it again. lol

no unfortunately she is at sitc, praying shes doing better, she wasn't in perfect health and since I am out of town working and I just got her, she went back to get medicine and such.

Am praying she makes it because she is so awesome looking, and the male finally hosted an anemone today. He did try to host my large plate first, but the plate wasn't to thrilled and I think was trying to eat him, so I scooted him towards the LTA and he became very interested in it. Hooray!

cschweitzer it is well spread along the tank. i have 4 outlets returning from a little giant 4 through a squid through 1/2" outlet and 2 korlia's on both sides on a wavemaker. so current is never coming from the same direction. that's my concern. if they would try to say out of the flow the would get pick up by another and so on. i thought wrasses were fast but not until i saw him get shot accross the tank. anyways i'll put some chromis in there and see how they would do and if they seem alright then might go for a pair. will be looking for naked, picasso, onyx. if anyone knows of some let me know. thanks for all your guys input

Mine have never had any problems with it, but they were slowly acclimated to it. I slowly upped my flow to what it is now. I have probably about 1100 or so gph at best, though, in a 30g. Like others have said, if you get a healthy/bigger pair, you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever. Mine seem to like it, and they're pretty fun to watch when they swim in and out of it...
