How do I attach a new frag

Ok, I have never tried to buy a frag unattached or frag a coral myself, this weekend I was at a friends house, and he had the most beautiful acropora I had ever seen, he offered to frag it for me, of course I accepted, but now I have the dilema that I have no clue how you guys attach them to a rock, do you do it like you would attach a soft coral with a rubber band that holds it in place or what?

I have other acroporas and montiporas, but have never bought or recieved an unattached frag.

Yep, just put a bit of glue on the end of a frag and stick it to a piece of rock. It is best if both surfaces are dry (you can pull the coral out and dry off the end on a towel.

be sure to get the coral back into the water as soon as it is glued so you dont burn the coral with the glue (literally)

With bigger pieces you can use epoxy, but for frags (depending on size, because IÃ"šÃ‚´ve received frags the size of a colony) superglue gel is the best.

The quickest and easiest way to attach an SPS frag is by using "cyanoacrylate" super glue gel. This is the thick stuff that bonds very well (instant adhesive) underwater. You can purchase cyanoacrylate glue gel at any hobby shop for under $5.00. This is also the exact same stuff Doctor Mac (http://www.pacificeastaquaculture.com), That Fish Place and other retail outlets sell for a higher price. They call it "Reef Glue" but it contains the same stuff (e.g., cyanoacrylate ester) you can purchase at your local hobby shop.

you can go to the 99 cent store and get three for one dollar forget that 5.00 dollar crap its the same as the 99 cent store stuff

go to walmart for loctite super glue gel . Thats what I use mainly. Also I use the putty sometimes too.

They do not sell cyanoacrylate ester glue gel at the dollar store. Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears do not carry it either . This is a thick, advanced performance instant adhesive which is usually only available at hobby shops and art & craft stores. Not all super glues are the same. The cheap stuff has never bonded well for me underwater. In my experience, snails and crabs would knock my frags over all the time until I started using gel glue containing cyanoacrylate ester.
