sounds like a stupid question.. but iv always had my RO/DI unit under my sink. i want to move it in the pantry about 10 feet away. how do i get it in there? i live in an apartment so i cant do anything perminant and id like to not have hoses running accros my kitchen to get to it. its directly across from my sink by about 10 feet like i said. is it posible?

Is there a water source in the pantry? Is there a water line running through the pantry that you could tap into?

are you on the ground floor??

if so can you get underneath it?? or get to a palce where you can see it??

if so...with some creative moves with pipes, you can drop a line of some kind down each hole you drill...grab them and pull them to you to connect the tubing and then pull it back up

i believe my water heater is in the pantry, and yes its ground flooring. what do you mean go underneith it? i have tile flooring.

is there a way to run it from the sink to the pantry? like would the water pressure be enough?

its very hard to say without seeing it...but if you are on the ground floor.......my next questin would need to be if you can get underneath it(the apartment). you dont even need to be able to crawl underneath there necesssarily, alhtough that would make it easier.

you can drill a hole big enough for the tubing underenath your sink to under the house....... and feed it to the pantry and up inside a cupboard or even through a small hole in the tile along the wall.

the water pressure will be fine

is there a way to leave the system where it is and just run the RO water output to the pantry? thats where im going to keep my water storage is why i ask. will a LONG output hose be fine?

prolly the easiest way to go. of course you'll see a little hose running across my celling or floor but of well. cant fit a 50 gallon container under my sink O_o. thanks for the help.

that would work to. is there any ill affect on having the tube go up like 8-10 feet? im just worried about pressure because even though the pantry is only 10 feet away the tube would have to travel at least 20 feet to get there un noticable.

IIRC if your output is going to be that long you end up losing some GPD. It will take a little bit longer to fill your storage container. See if you can find Melev on here. He knows his stuff about RO units.

I've got about a 60 ft run under the house from my garage to my living room with only about a 40psi supply to my RO/DI. I can't imagine how long the run would have to be before it really caused you any trouble. The friction loss at such a low flow rate really isn't even worth mentioning. Gaining altitude would have more of an effect by creating head pressure, but 8-10ft should not cause you any trouble.

You could also just have a long tube ready to go on your RO/DI unit and when you want to fill the tank, just stretch it where it needs to go. When the fill is complete, roll it up and hang it near the RO/DI unit. maybe once per month you have a 1/8" hose laying on the kitchen floor for a day while your filling your tank.
Not a bad way to go considering that it's a rental unit.
Also if there is a water source in the pantry or in one of the walls to the pantry then you might just want to relocate the RO/DI unit to the pantry and use that water source.

thanks all for imput, this water heater is so old im afraid to touch it O_o. its wierd becuase they just re did the whole complex but since the water heaters still work fine they left em. i think im just gonna run a hose when i need it to fill up a storage container so i can pre mix salt water in a brute container or something for quick water changes.

I run mine threw the bathroom into my closet, i bought 50ft of hose and use 25ft from the sink to my closet and the other 25ft for the waste water line. Works for me.
