Here is a picture of this algae. I am not sure what kind it is. How can I get rid of it? It's growing everywhere and driving me nuts. Please let me know. Thank you.

Yup that is what it looks like. How can I get rid of it? Some have said manual removal which is what I've been doing. It seems to grow back faster. Phosphates read 0. I'll try to cut back on feedings as suggested. I have a good size refugium with a lot of Chaeto.

marinegirl,

if i have the solution to your problem. does that mean i get a frag of that micro? :P

you said you have a ball of chaeto? try getting a seperate bucket of water, shake the detritus built in the ball of chaeto. you could also thin it out so it can be mroe effective in sucking up the nutrients.

there are many things you can try. here are a few.. you could raise your magnesium a little, incorporate a sea hare, shorten your photo period, manual removal or use a torch and burn it off the rock ;). i had a bunch of caulerpa before and added a camel shrimp to the tank. it devoured the caulerpa in less than 2 days. caution tho, before you add a camel shrimp beware they might attack your corals. i didn't have any corals in that tank. also, if your gonna try to torch method make sure you have a seperate tank to recure the LR in otherwise it'll cause probs in your display.

caulerpa in general is a pain in the rear when it takes hold. hth

GAC, GFO, pH & Magnesium

GAC, GFO, pH & Magnesium

I had an infestation of C. nummularia and C. racemosa. After adding a media reactor containing granular activated carbon (GAC) and granular ferric oxide (GFO), the C. nummularia has disappeared and the C. racemosa has died back considerably. A proliferation of coralline algae on my glass is evidence of better water quality.

I still have bryopsis and codium. I plan to raise the pH to 8.5 and the magnesium to 1600 ppm to combat them.

If you plan on using GAC, I recommend the Norit ROX 0.8 from www.twopartsolution.com. For GFO, I recommend Warner Marine PHOSaR HC. I haven’t decided how to raise the pH and magnesium levels but it will probably be a combination of “Two Part Solution,” “kalkwasser,” and Kent Marine Tech-M magnesium supplement.
