How do I know if my clam is getting enough light?

I switched from a 150w 14k MH to 6x18w T5.

I want to make sure this light is strong enough to have him on the sand. If not I will bring him up on a rock.

I have a crocea in my 55 gal with 4 x 54W and it's doing great. IMO 6x18W on a 29 is more than enough

Do you keep your clam at the bottom?

i kept a maxima under four t5ho for two years about eighteen inches below the water. it died of pinched mantle i believe. was happy so i never moved it up.

i would keep it high up in your tank i used to run pcs 24 inch deep clams died :( move to mh much better i think they like intense llight might be a good idea to keep him high.

The reason I stared this thread was to learn what to look for when a clam is not getting enough light. So far my clam looks health.

Here is a picture of my clam.

Look for too high mantle extension. Try to mount them on a piece of rock or something even when on the sand. If they are not happy, they will not keep their attachment and keep moving. If they stay attached, they are probably happy. But clams will still do better with more light in the long run.

His threads are attached to the sand so I guess thats a good sign.

You changed from 150 watt of lighting to 108 watt of lighting. Moveover, your MH was more focused lighting than your T5. I would at the minimum bring it closer to the light. A clam getting inadequte lighting just slowly fades away. I would hate to see your beautiful clam gradually lose all its color.

hyper extension, the mantle reaching for light rather than laying flat and gradual loss of colour until finally being fully bleached.
