How do I remove a Ritteri from my tank?

I have one...seems to be healthy, I've had it for a few months (see avatar). I am not too happy that its decided to live on my front glass, but its no longer moving around mowing down corals, so that is fine....however all the stories about them suddenly moving and nuking tanks is starting to freak me out a bit. I'm just now getting fish back into the display after a bout with velvet...I don't want to do that again. So, I was thinking, especially given his current position near the top of my tank...could I put a bowl right under him and just pry him off and scoop him up quickly enough to get him out safely? Any other ideas?

Anybody in South Floida want to trade something for a decent-looking Ritteri?

Make sure your finger nails are not too sharp and gently peel it off the glass. It will take a while but so long as you are careful not to damage the foot you should be OK.

in my experience, ive never had a ritteri hurt any of my fish when moving it. that being said, when i did most of my anemone moving, i had 120 gallons in the main display and another 75 in my refugium. perhaps youre at a higher risk with smaller volumes of water?

but fingernails work the best, they come off glass extremely easy, and then catch him into a bowl or rubbermaid container and take him out. you should be just fine.

OK, good to know....its a 240 gal tank so water volume should be OK.

How big is the Ritteri and where in South Florida are you?

The foot is about 6" across, and I'm in Sunrise (suburb of Ft Lauderdale).

I'm on the other coast right where Hurricane Charley came in. I would love a small Ritteri and trade out my S. Haddoni Carpet.
