How do I stop clams from growing?

My squamosas are getting absolutely enormous, in the few months I've had them, they've gone from 4.5" to over 6" if not 7". They throw down new sets of scutes what seems like every week. Is there even a maximum size on these guys? How big have yours gotten? The thread title was a joke, but if they keep up with this rate, they will outgrow my house in a year.

You picked a winner with a "squamosas". In nature they grow to be over 2' in length and weight a over a hundred lbs. If I can remember correctly from "Giant Clams" written by Daniel Knop Squamosas are the second largest clams just under the gigas.

If you want a small clam then get a crocea..

you can drop yoru calcium levels if you don't want them to grow as fast and you can also change yoru llighting to a higher Kelvin.

"Tridacna squamosa is a much larger species reaching shell lengths of 30, occasionally even 40 centimeters".
- Knopp, 1996.

I dispute this as I have seen wild squamosas larger than 40cm, but only a few. They do grow very fast but grow no larger than T. maxima, it is T. derasa that grows to 2' long and is the second largest species.

firechild.. thanks for clearing that up. It has been a while since I read Daniel's book.
