right now, i have a 30 gallon tank but i am in the initial stages of planning for my dream tank... the only thing that is left that i do not know how to deal with in a large tank is regular top off... it's not so much of a problem if the tank is inwall since i can have a 30 gallon containter back there, but if i am going to have a tank on a cabinet... what special things do you all do to make regular top off easy...? other than feedings, i want to be able to leave the tank alone for 1 or 2 weeks at a time... the biggest tank i want to have is 120 gallons...

You could utilize a littermeter III connected to your water storage from your RODI unit. The LMIII will supply your RODI topoff and can do waterchange and add your CA and ALK for your convenience.
The downfall is LMIII is a little pricey. There are some cheaper methods you could utilize but this kind of setup gave me trouble free and peace of mine for a little while now. hth.
Good luck!

I use a kent float valve on the sump. It ws hooked up to my ro unit that is under my kitchen sink that also supplies my refrigator. Ran the line up thru the attic.

Since I moved the tank, I'm looking at a dedicated water line connecetd to a cold steril unit to filter the water to the kent valve. It's all automatic. No electrical parts to go bad. Just a float and a rubber seal.

I've got a 14 gallon pet food container that I manually top-off with water every week or so. I use a tunze osmolator and run the top-off water through a PM 660 kalk reactor to add kalk into the system. Works well for me and it all fits in less than 2' (width-wise) of my stand.

I mix kalk in 50 gallon batches and dose with a pump on a timer. I have no problems with leaving top off alone for about 10 days at my rate of evaporation.

but if i have a water container under my stand, can i use a pump and a really long hose to bring water from the ro/di container to the container under the stand...?

what i'm trying to get at is i don't want to carry buckets of water around the house... do you all use pumps and long hoses to transfer water from one container to another...? are these hoses/pipes plumbed permanently within the house walls, or do you just drag a long hose across the floor when you need it...?

thanks for all the infos...! =)

on my 75 gal, i also have the 14gal food container hooked to an aqualift pump controlled by a topoff switch. it keeps the water level pretty constant. The slow adding also helps with not needing to keep the top off water at a certain temp and add limewater at the same time.

Not enough to go away for a couple weeks. if i had to do that, i would put the pump on the 44gal storage trash can on the porch.

before i get bashed for posting here with a 75g, i am going to transfer this same setup to my 180. it will be moved into the livingroom this weekend!
