How do you dislodge a clam?

Can you get a maxima clam to detach from rock?

I've heard you can wiggle them back and forth for a while (maybe up to 15 minutes) and they'll let go. I've never tried that myself.

I've used the wiggle method but it took me about 30 minutes - just be really careful not to rip or tear the clams foot

If the rock is not near the bottom of the tank you could try moving it down so the clam let's go in an effort to move to an area with more light.

You can use a new razor blade and cut the thread. Be CAREFUL not to cut anything else except the thread.

I used the wiggle method along with turning the clam around in a cirlce. It will eventually let go. Try doing this slow as you do not want to damage it.

While you wiggle it, try rubbing a piece of ice on it's foot. I know this is difficult to do but, the clam won't enjoy the ice and will try to release from the rock to get away from it.

You can slice (not tear) the thread. Do this with as sharp a blade as possible, not scissors.

I was told to use and ice cube, by that way you dont cut into any flesh! good luck

My wife knocked my clam off my live rock with her arm while cleaning the tank. No harm done.
