how do you fatten seahorses?

Try feeding more often. Larger amounts at a single feeding don't help much but more meals should help.

What Wink said, and enrich with something high in HUFAs, like Vibrance.
But not every feeding, or they will develope a fatty liver. :(

yeah! seahorses should be fed at least twice aday some say three times is even better. also soak the mysis in a food addative like zelcon. ussually you just thaw out some mysis and then soak in a small cup with zelcon for about 10 minutes or so. some say the longer the better. my buddy thaws out a few cubes then nets out all the mysis from the water. then he puts that in a bowl and adds some drops of zelcon he mixes it up then refrezee. later he chips off what he needs and thaws .

I would stay away from thawing and then refeezing. JMO Sanitarty issuses and all.

Multiple feedings is best. Personally IME I am not a fan of enrichments unless you are gutloading the shrimp prior to feeding. Just soaking does very little IMO. It does work for many so I'm not saying don't do it, or that it is bad, just IME I did not notice a benefit.

i don't think thawing and refreezing is good either because fishfood is flashfreezed. that's what i've been told at least.

thats true but think about when we go to a meeting and make filter foods. we use all kinds of frozen foods like frozen sqiud ...shrimp..etc blend them up then refreeze. i dont disagree cause i would never defrost shrimp and refreeze any for cocktails. but i think its okay for the use of our tanks nits not healthy for a human being fine for a fish/inverts. you can also add something to it i forget what its called to keep it fresh longer...its a powder. in anycase ive seen people do this without any harm to thgier reef. i dont do it. anyways as far as soaking the food the seahorse does in fact benefit from this ....not as much as gut loading but its certainly an option verses not doing either at all.

I would not refreeze seafood and reuse.

Seafoods contain Omega3 and Omega 6 oils. These are long chain fatty acids that will break down into short chain fatty acids, becoming rancid, very quickly by thawing and then refreezing.

The vitamins E & C will also begin to break down very quickly.

Just curiuos, how long have you had your seahorse? Where did you get it?

i've had them for over 4 months now. got a few from my LFS which got them from quality marine. they were skinny to start and have picked up a lot of weight recently so everything seems to be doing well.

whatever route you take as long as they are eating and you up the feedings to more frequency they should be nice and fattened up by a few days. hope to see some pictures soon!

Anybody heard of Falcons and know whether it has HUFAs? I can't find it on any search.

It turns out it was Selcon but the guy has a thick russian accent. I scored.
