I have a Gigas and he has put his foot through my sand and onto the glass. I need to move him, but I don't want to hurt him. Is there any way I can get him off the glass without killing him?
if you have to remove him use a razor blade or really sharp knife and cut the byssal thread as far from the clam as possible. be careful not to twist or pull on the clam to much as you may damage the byssal gland, which can be fatal.
actually if the foot is attached to the glass you shouldnt have to cut the byssal thread at all just clear the sand from around him and put the blade to the glass and in one clean swipe take the entire foot off the glass. never done it before but it seems like it would be better to get the entire foot. when i had to move my crocea i just took a new razor and cut the thread it worked well he was open a few minutes later.
