And for the second question of the day...how did you guys get your horses to eat frozen, whether it be mysis or whathaveyou...i bought them the other day and they didnt really want to eat yesterday which i thought was normal b/c they needed to get used to the tank, anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: These horses are both CB and I was told that they will eat frozen

What have you tried thus far?
Hikari mysis is readily taken by most cb seahorses. Some prefer PE mysis but it can be too big for small seahorses.

Other possibilities are if the food is swept away too quickly from the current, or the tank is too large and the food is dispersed too far. Many people use feeding stations just for that reason, but you usually have to have them eating first then train them to a feeding station.

Are they actively searching for food or just hanging in one place? When you put food in, do they chase it and give up, or ignore it entirely.

the male, i dont think, knows the food is there because he was hanging out at the top of the tank hitching on the powerhead. The female showed some interest but didnt really go after anything..Ill try again tomorrow, theyve only been in the tank 2 days so they might still be getting used to it...

Can you describe the tank set up? How big, what kind of flow, what other fish, etc . . .?

the tank specs are...

29aga
20w standard aga flourescent light that came with the hood
ac70fuge with chaeto. flow turned all the way down
turbo twist 9w uv sterilizer with 200 gph. but im sure that this is much less, more like <100 after tubing
10lbs lr, 30lbs live sand

fish include..2 tank raised, unknown species, seahorses, (the look like kuda, but could be erectus) a firefish, and a very chill chalk bass

when i feed them i turn all flow off, i think i saw the female trying to swallow some today, although i didnt see her go after it at all..any info would be greatly appreciated

I would try feeding with the flow on. For me at least, they tend to be more interested when the food is being blown around; as long as its not so much that it is swept away immediately.

If that doesn't work, try LBS with the mysis, see if the movement of the LBS won't encourage them to eat.

If they're still not eating in a couple days, I agree that you should return them to the store because they told you something that was untrue about them.

Two more questions: what brand of mysis are you feeding and what is your tank temp.

ALso, important to note, this is why its always a good idea to quarantine ALL new arrivals. In addition to the prevention of disease, you can monitor their feeding more closely with no competition from other fish. And since quarantine tanks tend to be on the smallish size, the food stays concentrated.

thanks fishgrrl, i got them to eat some ghost shrimp which they seemed to like, at least i know that they are eating now..ill keep trying the mysis, which is hikari i think by the way, hope fully they'll eat it
