how do you keep the drain line to the sump quiet?....

i have a 20L that is drilled on the top left corner. i have 1" PVC out of the back of the tank that connects to a Durso. previously i had vinyl tubing running down into my sump where it flowed into a T connection. this was pretty quiet. but the problem was algae growth (from my fuge light) clogging the tubing.

so i decided to plumb it with PVC. now the Durso connects to PVC which runs down to a 45d elbow which then runs down into another 45d elbow and then into the sump. this makes A LOT of noise and A LOT of bubbles.

i have played around with a number of different PVC connections inside the sump to try and quiet it down but nothing has worked that well. and i still get the "burping" effect every 15 seconds or so.

any suggestions? (other than switching back to vinyl tubing)

thanks

I do not have any experience with dursos, but if the vinyl tubing worked well, maybe you can try blocking the light from the vinyl tube. You could use tape or paint to block the light or if you like the look of the PVC, you could find a way to feed the vinyl tubing into it.

Sorry I cannot help with quieting the durso. Good luck.

you could place a black foam over the vinyl tubing home depot and other
such stores carry this it's used to insulate pipe's it's cheep and easy to put
on just cut to size you need and place it around tubing

Try putting a "Y" PC fitting on your drain so that as the water is flowing to your sump it is also drawing in some air.

I know that it sounds strange, but it works for me.

You need another drain. This one will have a gate valve you can throttle back a little which will be dead silent.Your current drain will be for back up.

thanks for all the replys. i think i solved the problem. i have a 90d elbow aimed horizontel to the sump's water surface. from there i ran some PVC that connects to a T fitting. the T points up and down so that the water runs down and, ideally, the air runs up.

jjjimy.... i think this is what you were describing. anyways it works quite well.

thanks again
