I agree with everything PK1 has said (and I usually always do)
Cucumbers, critters and waterflow (and time). Sand sifting cukes (haluthra species) do not pose a threat that some people still think. Sea apples on the other hand do.
You need to get as many microcritters as you can seeded into your sand. My favorites are terribellied/spaghetti worms, the little tiny white micro brittle stars, and all the unidentified pods .
If you put in a diamond goby, look into going bare bottom in a few years. They are after all the critters listed above as a food source and without the critters, your sand is a timebomb. Also dont put anyting onto/onto your system that will inhibit repopulation of the critters (IMO of course) (sterilizers, filtersocks, Ozone, sand sifting fish/stars.)
I do like a few of the tongan nassarius snails also.
