How do you like your Kole Yellow Eye Tang

I'm considering this fish for my tank. (75, but non standard 5ft long, 18X18, semi-minimal aquascaping.. two islands with swimming room)

Looking to hear real-life experiences from people who have this fish.. Do you like it? Pro's, Con's... It is said to be a "peaceful" tang.. How does it get along with your other fish? (I wouldn't even consider a second tang in the tank, so no need to heed warnings about that).. Do your smaller fish do well with it? Dither fish "required"? (I have three blue chromis, so it wouldn't really matter, but someone else may find this thread at some point)
Does it eat readily, or do you have to tune in the algea you make available to it?
I realize each fish is different, but before I bring anything in, I prefer to hear from people who have them.

Thanks!

I had a kole for a little over 6 months with no problems, then one day the fish just snapped and started chasing any fish that attempted to graze off the live rock, blennies and wrasses look out!!!

It never paid any attention to any other fish it was housed with, assessor, mandarin, midas blenny.

My Kole bothers no one outside of new additions. And even those he only tries to show he is the boss. My other tangs leave him alone. He works on the algae that I allow to grow in the back wall of my display. He is constantly working on rock or glass. You can always tell when he has been kissing the glass. He is a pretty cool little fish. He eats anything I put in the tank flake or pellet.

i just re-read the title of this thread, and now I'm waiting for some one to say "grilled with a bit of lemon".. so i figured I'd post it and just get it out of the way.

I have had mine for about a year, cool personality eats everything put in the tank. does show sign of aggression with my starry blenny and occasionally with my coral beauty dwarf angel , but a very good addition in my opinion. I also have a purple tang and they do not show any aggression towards each other.

Mine was really aggressive twords any new fish. Other than that it was a great addition and great grazer.

I love my kole tang. He's a sweetie. He grazes all day, huge appetite, but after 2 months, still doesn't eat algae off a clip. He gets along with his tankmates, maybe even gets bullied a little by my aggressive female clarkii. I must say, though, he POOPS like crazy. I think its a tang thing, though.

Great fish imo, only downside I have with mine is that he likes to stir up the sand under the rock structure from time to time.

Too the point where you had to "clean up after him" or change your maintenance routine? Since they are constantly eating, I assumed they would be more prolific in that area (more in, more out)

Kole's are small in the tang world, mine was a lot like my dwarf angel. Very peaceful, got along with everyone, and was eager to come see what you were doing when people walked up to the tank.

all tangs eat almost continuously if there's food, it's just how grazers are.

My first one ate nothing and died after a week, second one eats everything, even if he spits it back out at first gives it a try, not shy at all, bit of a bully but so is everything else in the tank so I needed one like this. I've heard a few stories of them being very aggressive but I think that's going to happen with any type of tang.

I didn't change my routine with him having frequent poops. I think he's potty trained himself...he goes in one corner of the tank now. Lol luckily I have a coral beauty and 5 chromis with a taste for poo. Haha.

We loved ours in our previous tank. Very striking, beautiful fish that is very peaceful. Unfortunately ours mysteriously stopped eating and disappeared. We believe it was an individual fish issue vs. specific issue with the type of tang. Of the three tangs we have had, it was my favorite and it is in consideration for stocking the new tank.

I QT'd mine for a few weeks, with no sign of problems. I feed often, plenty of spirulina and the frozen mysis he loves. My theory is chubby fish equals happy fish. Not necessarily helps with parasites per se, butmaybe it boosts his immune system.

QT if you want to make sure it's not carrying ich. I added both of mine straight to the display, they were from Diver's Den, my current one has been in there 3 weeks and no signs of disease.
