my clam moved himself to the backside of my rock and now i can't see him. is there anyway to remove him from the rock and move hiim to the front?

i removed a maxima clam froma rock he was attached too.some people say point a powerhead at it and his bysal threads will let loose,i used a sharp razor and cut the threads.i made sure to cut as far from the shell as possible.is this the best way(im not sure)but it worked for me.he now resides in my sandbed.

The way mentioned by Checkinhawk is what I've read as well. Carefully cut the Bysal thread as far from the clam as possible.

this will not hurt/damage the clam???

no, the clam wont feel a thing. the byssal threads are a glandular secretion. they have no blood supply or nerves. think of them kind of like hair or finger nails.

thank you very much for the information...now i don't feel as bad or nerviouse about cutting the little guy off.

Wouldn't that maybe stress the clam out a bit? I don't know if I'd be up to shocking it temperature wise. I'm definitely NOT a clam expert though.
