So how does equipment that is going to be replaced know, and then begin to work better? So I have had this ASM-G2 (stock) on a 75g tank, for about a year. In that time the skimmer, IMO has way under preformed. Every two weeks I was lucky to get maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch of greenish skim. There was always a good amount of "gunk" on the pipe going into the cup, but I was never really satisfied.
Move ahead to today. I got a new SRO xp 1000SSS, i Go to take the old skimmer out, and it has 1 1/2 to 2 inches of the nastiest skim I have ever smelled in my life lol. The pipe wall was CAKED with nastiness. All I know is if this was the norm, rather than the exception I wouldn't have spent the $$$ on the new skimmer.
The new skimmer is in and breaking in. I have heard a lot of good things about these reef octopus skimmers, so I am excited to see how it performs.
