How does this sound? (Lighting System)

What are your opinions about 8*39W T5 with reflectors on a 10" or 12" deep tank? I plan on a shallow clam tank.

if all the bulbs have individual reflectors you should be fine

They dont have individual reflectors, the lighting system has its own reflector.

You should have any problems but stay away from the maximas just tridacna croceas and tridacna derasa. Maximas can thrive under T5 but it really is a gamble. Plus you just don't get the same look as you do when you use halides.

Just keep in mind that the great performance you hear about in reference to T-5s has a great deal to do with the individual reflectors. The rest has to do with the smaller diameter allowing you to squeeze more bulbs under the hood. Otherwise, they're no different than any other HO bulb. My guess is you'd be better off with VHOs, and I don't think many people recommend those for clams.

Individual reflectors should definately increase the intensity, however its only an 12" tank and add the rocks & sand to it. I kept clams before under similar lighting and their color & growth was really good.
I have a 250W MH but I think I need to use 2 of them for a 40" long tank, one might not light the sides.
