How far off the water should I have my lights

Right now its about 6" off the water

T-12 VHO you wanna get as close to the water as you can. mine are 2 - 3"

sorry should have said what I was running

4x400MH in luminarc III reflectors about 6" off water line

4 x95 watt super acentic about 9" off waterline but that will drop by a few when my reflectors get in

If the spread is good with them that close then you are fine...if not, raise them up some...I usually shoot for 8-10" off the water for metal halides and 6" for VHO.
