How goes it

what about a sticky post that contains a list of members willing to help with some basic information like location and contact info. The list should be redone every year to keep it fresh. A post goes out every january asking who wants to be on the list. The old one is deleted and the new one posted. Just an idea.

The biggest problem with this is that the longer you are in this hoby, the more you see folks come and go. These types of lists have to be maintained and purged (deleted) on a regular basis or you will be trying to get in touch of 20 people find someone willing to help out. Or, you will miss the people with years of experience because they are at the beginning of the post and you assume they are all but dead at this point. I agree this is something that needs to be looked into again. I can look into incorporating something into our site that would allow people to basically opt-in to a tank-sitting option and people could easily look for them. Once their membership expires, you could see they are no longer a member and probably not interested in sitting.

That being said, one of the best/easiest/cheapest things you can get for a vacation peace of mind is a simple $50-$80 IP camera. This would allow you to check on your tank while you are away and call/email/PM people if you see even something you think should be checked out. The down side is it should point at the guts and not the tank so you would need two to see check in on the reason for all of that equipment.

With every failure I learn something.

It still sucks, but as long as we learn it almost makes it worth it. We also see it all the time on here.

The only unfortunate addition to this is that most people on here will have to experience things for themselves vice trusting the word of others. :deadhorse1:

I just came back from vacation and had 2 sitters just in case. One of our guys here (you know who you are and !!!THANK YOU!!!) and one of my friends close by. It's a good thing they were willing to help. My ATO tank is good for 5 days and needed refilling. My Apex decided to quit also so that much for that. I also had a camera so I could watch the tank just in case the Apex fails. As my 3rd backup I spoke to the two LFS close to me and had them on speed dial. Yeah I know, I have a problem lol!
