if that floats your boat then go for it...everybody has their own way of doing things..just try and keep the intake 2" and try and keep the output lines 1.5"....as you know, reducing the output to 1" cuts the flow in half, reducing the intake does about the same but puts more stress on the pump.

Why would you buy a pump with a 2" intake? I can't understand why MDM and others promote this idea

i wouldnt put the skimmer AFTER the fuge...i would put it before.
You want those little critters to make it to the tank without possibly getting killed in the skimmer.

if the dart wont work bc my drain is 1.5, what pump should I be looking for? it can't be too expensive and it has to be silent.

The skimmer should not be in the return section, since the return section water will fluctuate with evaporation. You will want to put the skimmer in the first section.

I wouldn't put your skimmer after the fuge or in the return area either. Your skimmer should be placed ideally in a compartment that will have a consistant water level such as your intake area or a seperate compartment all together. You might want to check out Melev's Website to get a better idea on a typical sump design and go from there.

The Dart will work, it just wont work as good as it will with a 2" intake, may shorten the life of the pump too...
