how large a WC would you do?

Considering a large % water change, luckily this system is only 75g. Can I change out half the water at once? The reason I want to do this is ever since adding some new frags that I bayer dipped (i must not have rinsed them well) my inverts have seemed stunned and all my sps's have retracted there polyps except for my birds nest.

Just at a loss have done two small 5g WC's the first seemed to show some short term improvement, but the next did nothing.

Will I be safe doing a 50% WC or could this cause even more problems?

I added carbon, but that has done nothing to improve the situation.

Everything tests in range CA 420, ALK 10, nitrate under 1. po4 not tested but doesnt appear to be an issue as corals have great color, however i have noticed some tissue stress this last week. Also one of the larger frags I added RTN'd on me and I am wondering if that is also caused some issues. No signs of Red bugs or AEFW;s other that the retracted polyps, but no visible signs

The thing you gotta worry about is raising levels to high. So if your salt has Cal at 420. And your salt mix has Cal at 460. Its going to raise your Cal by 20 PPM. So be careful of that. You might want to add a little less salt then usual. But I think everything will be okay.

You would be better off doing a couple smaller water changes so you don't take the chance to mess the water parms up and stress stuff more. I would say split that 50 percent in 2-3 water changes. You could dip corals in logul's to help with stress and tissue loss. How much carbon did you add and where did you place it?

Added 13oz to a filter bag that hangs in the sump where the tank overflows into.

If you match parameters closely you should be fine... I've had no issue doing 50% (and larger) water changes. In a dire situation I've been a part of 100% water change (pollutant spilled into tank) with no adverse reactions. If your make-up water closely matches tank water (temp included) you should be fine. One word of caution... many people don't take into account that their coral might be exposed to air for a period of time... make sure you aren't running hot/high intensity lights that might overheat your upper coral while they are exposed.

I have a 55g. I only do it once a month mostly bc I'm lazy. I also feel that you benefit from one larger wc rather than a few smaller one.

I either do 25-30 gallons every other week or 10 gallons a week depends what the rest of my routine is like.

(so on my system which is proboly around 80 gallons of actual water).

That's about a 1/3rd to an 1/8th.. or 50-60% a month.

For sps I would avoid doing 1 large change if your parameters aren't closely aligned.

I have been doing weekly 30%-40% water changes with Seachem Salinity for a long while......The parems are matched along with temp.....great nutrient reduction, too for trates....on a 90, btw.
