How long can corals go with out light?

I am in the process of transfering everything over to my new tank, and right now everything is in rubbermaid tubs with powerheads, and it is taking longer than expected. The corals have been in the tubs since Sat. I hope to have them all moved in a couple of days. How much time can the corals be without light? Mostly all softies.

They can do pretty decent. I would say about a week and it would still show signs of stress. I recommend running up to Walmart and picking up a couple cheap reflectors and a few lights of america bulbs to hold you off. Something is better than nothing. Do you have any access to sunlight?

I have some reflectors. What bulbs do you get? I have looked at home depot, and I have not seen the lights of America. Do they have a 10K rating on them? I will need some for my sump. I do have a 10K on one of the tubs, but it it just a 30 watt bulb. The tubs are near a big sliding glass door, however there is a roof on my back patio so not much light gets in.

Thanks
B.

They are screw in PC bulbs that burn at 6500K which is just fine. They use about 30w but out out 100w+. You can grab them at lowes, home depot, light stores, and walmart. I got mine from walmart and it is twisted in the shape of a flood light. It works great. Here is a picture what to look for.

This is similar to what they look like

Just lay your old hood with the vhos over the top held by some chairs or something...

That would work better if it is operational.

As Paul Whitby and others have realized, the 500 watt Halogen work lights will work just fine for a temporary light source, The lights are super cheap too. I even found that corals will grow under these lights but their color will be crummy, They will come right back when they are back at home.
