How long do I have?

I got into this crazy hobby about two months ago, and joined here about a month ago. Wrong order and now I'm in WAAAY over my head. I got some live rock and I think a mushroom has started to grow. It is less the a quarter inch so far, pinkish purple, and, well, looks a mushroom. Sorry, couldn't get a good pic. Like I said, I got into this before I knew what I was doing. Old equipment, including a single T-12 for light. Right now, the mushroom is toward the bottom of the tank (36x18x18). Is it going to survive there, or do I need to move it closer to the light? I'm planning on getting a better light, but I'm under employed at the time (yeah, I know. Fine time to start a new hobby).

Your tank sounds like a perfect mushroom tank. You should look at getting more. Although the single T12 at 18" water depth may be pushing it.
