i have look at quite a few places with numerous discussion on flame angels, but was unable to get a real sense on how long people been able to keep this very popular but not-so-easy fish in their home aquarium.

please share your experience ie

first try? second? third?....
for 6 month..1 year......3year...10 year.
:hammer:

first try with a flame had it two years it was my fault I had a pump fail during a tank upgrade that took to long. The second is on two and a half years and going strong.

First flame was killed (large sally lightfoot killed it within days)

Second we rehomed after a year while moving/redoing tank). Never had problems. But that Sally lightfoot is gone :)

Third (current) over 2 years. Fat and happy.

Kept all in stable 180gal sps displays without issues.

I still have one going strong after 15 years! He has two other angels about the same age along with other fish in a 150 gallon reef. He has gotten a bit fatter since feeding a CBB black worms beginning about a year ago. Seems everyone likes black worms...

Please, share a picture . I am interested in seeing what a mature one looks like. Bet he could kick some ash !

I had two on different occasions , lost both to carpet surfing. Keep the tank covered.

I had on for a little over 2 years and i bought it used:twitch: from another reefer not sure how long he had it for. Sold him when i had to take down my tank. I dont know what happened after that

Only had mine for 4 months and I got it with 1 eye missing but it is super active. Looks like I will have him for a long time :fish1:

After I get my larger tank up and running I may try to snag a pair of flame angels off Diver's Den :celeb1:

wow, 15 years! that's really more than amazing and unheard of. would love to see a picture of him/her.

I had one for about 4 years -- lost it in a move, a rock crushed it :(

I currently have a pair that have been with me about 2 weeks.

One and only got him around 2001 added him to a 200 gallon tank that had a clown trigger and a large queen angel. Lost the queen and sold the trigger but my wife would never let me sell her Flame Angel. He is now in my 300, still hangs out in the rocks till feeding time. Reef safe including clams. Came from Vanuata

Here's some quick pics of the oldster. Last year I noticed his eyes got "buggier" and he gained weight. I suspect it is due to adding the black worms. Nothing else has changed. He is as healthy as ever though.

First: Starved to death because there are larger fish in the tank and the flame is too small.
Second: Murdered by the yellow tang.
Third: I bought it on 12/2,2010 and it is thriving in my FO(Flame only) tank.
Fourth and Fifth: Both alive and paired up with the third one.
